How To Replace a Water Pump and Save $783

Datum objavljivanja: 4. Lip 2019.
Water pump replacement DIY. Learn how to replace a water pump at home using common hand tools. I was able to easily replace this water pump in under an hour and saved $783.
Replacing the water pump on many cars is not difficult and this is a perfect example of an easy to replace water pump. You could do this entire job without any special tools and I spent under $60 in parts which is unbelievable after getting the $843 quote from the Jaguar dealership. I will also do a video on a more difficult water pump so you can see what is involved in that as well.
Thanks PEAK for the coolant product placement in this video!

  • For daily updates, definitely follow me on Instagram: The Dream Car video is coming but because it is a very special video for me, I want to make sure it is amazing, so it is taking a little longer than I thought to film and edit (you will see why when it comes out). In the meantime, I filmed and edited this water pump video to bridge the gap. I actually edited this video during my 2 week long road trip where I had meet-ups for you guys in Cincinnati, Indy, and Chicago! As always thank you for the support and stay tuneeeeeed! P.S. Here is a link to the first every DIY video I did on my channel to help people:

    • I wish my mechanic was as detailed and thorough as well as neat in his doings. Chris is obviously a class act.

    • thank you Chris

    • Chris, I need help! My 2014 passat has a clunking noise while going over small or large bumps. I have checked every joint and tightened every bolt. I've been under this car every other day trying to find the culprit. I'd bring the car in but due to the lockdowns affecting my income. I just don't have the money to spare on that. I feel it might be the output cv axle seal, but I don't want to dig in that if it's not that. Plus I can't find any videos on this. Please, I need help with this. Thank you for any help.

    • why didn't you change the thermostat as well?

    • If you ever come through the shawnee Oklahoma area let me know. I'd love to show you the work I've been doing on my truck. I have 0 professional mechanic skills every thing I've done so far has been with the help of people like you and the good people that make the Haynes manuals.

  • I’m 9 years old I don’t even have a car but I still watch cuz I have nothing else to do with Covid-19

  • This video is very educational especially who want to save money.

  • Relatively simple job on this and some other makes and year and some are a nightmare.

  • Let's protect chris from these wicked auto industry people who dislike seeing people save money

  • Bro your like the Gordon Ramsey of cars Direct, positive energy no jibber jabber ... Beautiful 💯🔥 since watching your videos I now own a welder and lots of common tools and a healthy Mitsubishi shogun sport/challenger. Top channel 👍

  • “And finally, April Fools.” Thanks goodness! I’ve been enjoying the education from these videos and something didn’t seem right. Definitely watched this video with one eyebrow cocked and a large dose of skepticism. Although, I am curious about nitrogen-filled tires; I remember that being a thing years ago, but I haven’t owned a car in 12 years. 🥲 Moving back to an area where I can enjoy owning a car again so I’m very much enjoying researching vehicles and exploring this channel.

  • Hey Chris Fix… you mentioned in this video that you and your dad were lucky to have noticed the coolant leak before he left for work. What are some important things that you would recommend looking out for before setting out on your daily commute? PS Big fan of these educational videos.

  • Sucks I gatta remove my engine to change my water pump. Yup. That’s the only way to do it

  • I don’t even have a car but I still find myself watching these

  • i have never seen a waterpump that could be changed that easy.

  • Subaru owners be like: Wait, where are all the pulleys you need to remove to access the pump? As I'm about to own one myself, I hope Chris can sometime show how to do maintenance on boxer engines lol

  • only 2 things i would do different, and both are just little extras. I know it's not needed but i still put rtv on paper gaskets. I only apply a thin film though, you would still clearly see the grey of this gasket through the blue rtv. I also wire brush the threads of bolts, got a wire wheel on one side of the bench grinder, only takes a couple seconds per bolt and makes me feel a little better how reliable the torque spec is.

  • I have a 2012 Dodge Avenger overheating also I have coolant mixed with the oil but the water pump is external would this cause the coolant to be mixed with the oil or does it have to do with the head gasket

  • It's a whole different video for a timing chain driven water pump.

  • The learned cart equally reply because coal byerly help next a petite backbone. wrong, male catamaran

  • Hey Chris just wondering do you work anywhere else or just do HRwiki for a living just curious 😂

  • The amount of enthusiasm he has about fixing stuff is mind boggling. I've worked on many many cars over the years and let me tell ya, the mechanics dialogue is that of a salors mouth. I've never once heard this guy curse out a engine designer or a signal bolt, but then again, he seems to live and work in an area that is rust free, which makes a world of difference when working on cars. Snapped and rusted bolts, busted knuckles and absolute oil and grease covered parts are NOT fun to work with.

  • Good job Chris

  • Hey Chris what about when you get an OEM Water Pump and it still leaks around the seam?

  • Is this your dads car?

  • Chris your the best. Easy instructions to follow 👍

  • - Happy you're have a good video!

  • I can bet, Chris gets excited when something in his parent's car goes wrong.

  • Try one on a Honda civic. If the timing belt is involved, replace that also.

  • I swapped my spark plugs and ignition coils and lemme tell you that feeling of doing it yourself is something else

  • Easy when ur watching.. hehehe

  • Very nice video

  • Ol' Dirty Coolant 😂

  • Did it for about $30 😁🙏

  • Dude you’re a financial life saver!

  • Are you going to do a face reveal?

  • 1 year later and this still super helpful! Saved me about $500 I went to a shop and that was the bill. I went and got the pump and a socket set and did it. Super accomplished feeling thanks Chris. Keep it up!

    • That's what I love to hear! Thanks a lot!

  • My goodness that seems like the easiest water pump to replace. Nice

    • Fortunately it was pretty easy, I'll have a video on doing a more difficult one soon to see both processes!

  • Wow, right after I turn in my car to a mechanic to fix the water pump i find this on my recommended which I have also seen a while back ago, atleast im not paying more than 140, hopefully. They did say they needed to take out the whole motor so thats very worrisome

    • Hopefully it doesn't get expensive!

  • Can you do this same procedure for maxima 2012 if u have and can??? From dubai

  • Mom paid $900 for this at the VW garage. Seeing this video afther that makes the rip-off even worse. Thanks for the video though, very detailed and practical. Have a nice day!

    • To be fair the water pumps on VW’s are a lot more involved. So that price is not too bad.

  • My vw polo blow water out in the resevoir bt it does not over heat the water only come out while drivin, wat could be the coz

  • I called the dealership about changing the water pump on my Ford f-150 , $550. Did it myself for around $50 for new pump and antifreeze.

  • I think he missed a bolt😳

    • That's an unrelated bolt, it doesn't come with it when removing the old one 5:20

  • You have it easy, shit. I have 3 belts (v-belt), no automatic tensioner, AND little to no room. I have to remove an engine mount.

  • Face Reveal one day pls you have a great voice so that means your face is cool too but other people have just been want to see it

    • @ChrisFix ok 👌

    • I'll do one at 10 million subscribers!

  • Cheers Chris!

  • Watching a jaguar waterproof being replaced and realising it is way more thought common sense then a volkswagen

  • Great work Chris, 188k miles for a Jag is good going by the way 👍👍

  • you're the best bro

  • تو هم هرکه هستی از او بیشعور تری

  • wish my car was this easy to work on, i got the dreaded 2.2l gm ecotec, which means my water pump is driven by the timing chain

  • Fantastic but I did notice a bolt wasn't tourqed

  • Hey why there are no belts used to ride a bike

  • Dislike from jaguar workers love you chris fix

  • Anything on Chris's family's cars break: Chris: Hey Guys! Chris Fix here.

  • Worter pump

  • Just in case you don't watch until the very end of the video (13:00): That catchpan is important. If you get any coolant on the driveway or garage floor, be sure to clean it up - it tastes sweet, pets will drink it, and it destroys their kidneys - as little as a tablespoon (dogs) or teaspoon (cats) can be fatal.

  • Thumbs up Chris , U fixed it ..

  • Nice. I am really liking the T-Bird!

  • That was awesome! Now I’m feeling more confident about doing that on my Land Rover Discovery 2. Thanks! 🔧
