How Brake Pads are Made

Datum objavljivanja: 3. Srp 2019.
Brake pad replacement? Ever wonder how to make brake pads? Usually I show you a DIY like how to replace brake pads, but in this video I show you how brake pads are made!
Brake pads from this factory: www.NRSbrakes.com/nrs-chrisfix/
To make brake pads, we start out with raw pickled and oiled steel. The steel gets stamped into a brake pad backing plate which gets analyzed to make sure it meets OEM specifications. Next the brake pad backing plate goes to the NRS press to get a mechanical attachment. Then the backing plates get galvanized and finally brake pad friction material is added. The manufacturer can add and friction material they want such as semi-metallic, organic, or ceramic friction material. Lastly the shim is made and installed on the brake pad and they can be sent to testing! When it is all said and done, I took the brake pads we made and installed them on my truck with new brake rotors!
The company that let me film in their factory is giving all of my fans 20% off their brakes using the code "20off" at checkout. I do not make any money from this! They are doing this to get you guys to try out their new technology brake pads and I will always share a discount to help my subscribers. Here is the link: www.NRSbrakes.com/nrs-chrisfix/

  • The company that let me film in their factory is giving all of my fans 20% off their brakes using the code "20off" at checkout. I do not make any money from this! They are doing this to get you guys to try out their new technology brake pads and I will always share a discount to help my subscribers. Here is the link: www.carid.com/nrs-brakes/ This video was one of my most favorite that I have ever made! It took about a months worth of work and I hope you enjoy! It took a lot of time and work to make and NRS brakes literally closed down part of their manufacturing line so I could film this. It’s absolutely incredible how much help they were! I hope you guys like it and I hope other brands reach out so we can do more of these how-it’s-made episodes! Also I will be in Ireland for a meet-up on Saturday July 13 so check out my Instagram or HRwiki stories for more info if you are from Ireland!

  • man, this is a the best, most informative video on this topic I've seen, and I was wondering, why you didn't show how the friction material was made? 😔

  • Chris I like all your videos,it helps me a lot, only one question Chris, what is the best break pads to use? Thank you for your help,so many viewers you really inspired 👍👍👍

  • Amazing video. You are the best youtuber i've ever seen.

  • Extremely well done. Both you and the factory should be proud. Very informative and it's useful to know the "why" behind things so you can make better decisions when buying and when fixing.

  • If the breaks do not break then you are gonna break your life’s break!

  • Circa Chris Farley: "you can stick your head up a bulls ass to see how a steak is made, but wouldn't you rather take the butcher's word for it". I'll take my comment with a side of beef and a hefty charge of ridicule.

  • Hey guys Chris fix here, today we are going to swap this in-line 4 for a thermonuclear reactor!

    • @ChrisFix thermonuclear power is where it’s at

    • I think an LS or something would be good enough lol

    • I'm glad you found the video interesting!

  • Wudder!!!, lmao

  • one more thing.. it's time to keep the new brakes and change the car..LOL

  • Very nice presentation 👍

  • This was a great video that surpassed the "How It's Made" show in many respects. I would love to see more videos like this. One improvement you can and should make, is provide better video coverage of the individual steps. (Instead of just showing a component going into a chamber, show what's happening in the chamber.) This is where How It's Made has you beat. They were pretty consistent in getting the viewer a close up view of all the steps. But that's the only area they have you beat. My biggest complaint with the TV show was that all to often, they left me with more questions than answers. This is where your vid really shines. You not only answered every question I would have thought to ask, you showed things I would not have considered. Like brake rotors glowing pink in a torture test!!! That shot was worthy of Mythbusters.

  • Wait wait wait. The GOOD brake pads light on fire after braking 15 times? That doesn't sound right. But who brakes 15 hard stops in a row? Teenagers.......Or anyone driving a rental 😂

  • I think there’s 1000000000000 brake pads

  • Loved the video! Please do more.

  • Hey Chris, whats a good brake rotor brand?

  • Love your work this one is especially cool

  • You should go to a car factory and see how your favorite brand of car is made.

  • WTF this Chevy Tahoe have smaller brake disc than my old BMW 5 Touring. USA is 25 years behind Europe... Henry Ford himself showed how to worsen the quality of cars and you can see you have 100 years of experience in building counterfeit cars.

  • I have yet to find a set of pads that actually fits right. Most need to be filed to slide properly, some are loosy goosy.

  • I’m glad I found this. I learned something today.

  • Too much bla bla. Anyway, thanks!

  • Thanks to NRSBrakes for making this video possible.

    • @ChrisFix hey Chris I wouldn't be surprise more manufacturers do the same. Then again, you were in Canada, we all know Canadians are nice people. Awesome videos dude, I hope it has payed off all the efforts at all levels. Cheers from Portugal.

  • It's amazing that the factory gave you so much access with cameras. They really trusted you, and you've been faithful to it. You've conveyed the information in a way that everybody can understand. It's a win/win/win for you, the company & us.

  • Exelent!!

  • 14:23 The likelihood is you'll never see this on the road. "Me dropping a fat skid on the brakes"

  • Hello there, Chris Fix! I spend a lot of time on a '93 ARO 244, it's got drum brakes all-around, brake pump is fine, it brakes but loses line pressure and needs pumping by foot, last time when I installed a front drum I saw one of the cylinders bubbling around its gasket, should I consider replacing it? I got some spare gaskets!

  • Thank you for this great jop youve done to explain how its made .....

    • This company also cares about poor and desperate labor from poor countries by hiring them which will make Canadians wages go sky high. "But it don't make no sense!" Pa cried. "Not till you see the fella that put out this here bill. You'll see him, or somebody that's workin' for him. You'll be a-campin' by a ditch, you an' fifty other famblies. An' he'll look in your tent an' see if you got anything lef' to eat. An' if you got nothin', he says, 'Wanna job?' An' you'll say, 'I sure do, mister. I'll sure thank you for a chance to do some work.' An' he'll say, 'I can use you.' An' you'll say, 'When do I start?' An' he'll tell you where to go, an' what time, an' then he'll go on. Maybe he needs two hunderd men, so he talks to five hunderd, an' they tell other folks, an' when you get to the place, they's a thousan' men. This here fella says, 'I'm payin' twenty cents an hour.' An' maybe half a the men walk off. But they's still five hunderd that's so goddamn hungry they'll work for nothin' but biscuits. Well, this here fella's got a contract to pick them peaches or-chop that cotton. You see now? The more fellas he can get, an' the hungrier, less he's gonna pay. An' he'll get a fella with kids if he can, 'cause-hell, I says I wasn't gonna fret ya." The circle of faces looked coldly at him. The eyes tested his words. The ragged man grew self-conscious. "I says I wasn't gonna fret ya, an' here I'm a-doin' it. You gonna go on. You ain't goin' back."

    • So glad that Chris did not censor your comment. We already have enough corporate fascism in the United States. "But it don't make no sense!" Pa cried.
